Oh Please

Woman jailed for T-shirt: 'Didn't mean to offend anybody'

Her shirt said "I have the (slang for female body part) so I make the rules."
She intended to offend. That's obvious. If she thought differently, she's a complete idiot (not ruled out).

I for one am tired of seeing shirts like these in public. It's crass and obnoxious. I'm all for First Amendment rights, but let's use a little common sense. I don't want my kids seeing this stuff. I'm not saying we need to legislate against wearing vulgar shirts, but I am for personal responsibility. If you're going to wear one, especially in court, expect to be treated like this.

Also, if I see one where my kids can see it, expect me to say something. As a society, we have certain unspoken rules. You shouldn't curse in front of a lady or kids, you should behave in a civilized manner, and if you step over those lines, you should expect to have someone say something to you.

I Completely Support This

It's not often President Obama does something that I support, but he's hit the nail right on the head this time. I'm behind him 100%.

Giant Sucking Sound Going South

Whirlpool takes $19M in stimulus money, closes their Evansville, IN facility, lays off 1100 people, and moves to Mexico.

Yeah, they closed their Tennessee plant, too. Same deal. These guys suck.

Nothing New

Years ago, I took a philosophy class in college where we discussed the political and social questions of a "national" language for the United States. As you can imagine, there was absolutely no consensus.

Then as now, I know I'm not for a national language. I think it sort of defeats the purpose. You know, the whole "land of the free" thing. They come here to be free, not forced into a mold that is stamped "average American" on the side.

I'm seeing lots of reporting on this subject and others that lie along the same vein. This has especially been stirred up by Arizona.

'This Is Alabama. We Speak English.'
'Arizona Is The Meth Lab Of Democracy' (VIDEO)
The Arizona of 2010 Is the Alabama of 1963

Obviously there are a lot of sore feelings about these issues on both sides. I'm not saying I know the solution (or even a solution). All I'm saying is, these are not new issues. This has been floating around for a loooooong time. Much longer than that class I took 20 years ago.

Part of being a member of the Land of the Free is not only having the right to question things, but having the responsibility to question. I'm glad these issues are being discussed. I just wish people would leave off rhetoric and discuss things more rationally (pipe-dream, I know).

I'm still not certain where I stand on these issues. I'm torn and divided, much like our country. Maybe we both can find a consensus within us at some point.

Democrats Push to Require Corporate Campaign Disclosure

As it says, unlikely we'll see it before mid-term elections.
Let's get some of that transparency we were promised.

One of the bad points of this, and there are many, is the government can block site based on "intent". Obviously, this is a little overly broad.

Slippery Slope

U.S. Approves Targeted Killing of American Cleric

That's not from some right-wing, black-helicopter, conspiracy-theory-toting moon bat's website. That's from the frakin' New York Times, the bastion of Liberalism.

And that story. That's the freakin' American government authorizing the assassination of an American citizen. It doesn't matter what the man is doing, he's still a citizen and is protected by the same Constitutional rights and guarantees as you or I.

Holy crap! If the .gov starts getting into the business of assassinating American citizens who they don't like or disagree with, watch out. This is so not a good thing.

City Happenings

A couple of things that seem pretty big are happening in Knoxville today.

Karl Rove will be at Books-a-Million signing his new book today.
Also, Father wants biology book ban: Man says text shows bias against Christian faith.

Well, he has a point, but I'm not certain banning the book is the answer. This is the kind of thing that you teach your kids yourself.

Case for Climate Change Stronger Than Ever?

Only if you're an idiot.

Just because something was "modeled" on a computer does not make it correct. I could model the solar system with Earth at its center and make it reasonably accurate. That does not make it correct.

Let's all say this together: COMPUTERS ARE NOT MAGIC

Faulty logic, falsified data, and pre-determined hypotheses do not make good inputs for a computer program. Garbage-in. Garbage-out.

Carbon Neutral? Not so much

This lady claims her blog is carbon neutral.

I, on the other hand, claim no such thing. As a matter of fact, I specifically requested that the servers which power my blog are powered by a convoy of 12 Earthf**kers on a gigantic treadmill, while the server itself sits inside a refrigerator using the old freon as coolant, and a team of monkeys sits on the sidelines smoking Lucky Strike non-filters and providing moral support.

What About Cult Didn't You Understand?

Meteorologists Attack Global Warming, NYT Recommends Reeducation Camps

That leads in to a NYT article today, Among Weathercasters, Doubt on Warming. The NYT admits that there may not be quite a consensus on anthropogenic global warming [AGW], particularly among meteorologists, a very significant number of whom openly describe AGW as a "scam." That said, the NYT does nothing to hide its own bias, and in the end, quotes from several anthropogenic global warming [AGW] proponents who assure us that it is all a simple case of misunderstanding, nothing that a few months in reeducation camps for dissident meteorologists won't solve.
Good article, but bring some pop-corn. It's a long read.

Another Nail in the Coffin

...for GLOBAL WARMING.

Guess what it is this time! Go on, you'll never guess.
OK, I'll spill the beans: Arctic sea ice isn't being all melty like they said. Nope, it's actually growing.

I love the spin these guys put on this. Read it for the humor value and so that we may mock them and hear the lamentations of their women.

Ringing Endorsement of Health Care Bill ... From Castro?

Probably not what President Obama was looking for....

Cuban leader applauds US health-care reform bill

Global Cooling. I'm Sorry, What?

The media is jumping on the bandwagon of "GLOBAL WARMING is made up!", but they've got to have something to scare the pants off people. USA Today is running this article: Global cooling: What happens if the Iceland volcano blows.

I'll tell you what we need to do. Everyone go buy an SUV and start using spray-on deoderant again. Oh, and someone go wake up Al Gore. We are apparently going to need some more GLOBAL WARMING soon.
