The Little Black Hole Engine That Could

Louis Crane & Shawn Westmoreland have put together a theory about using black holes to power starships.

The first couple of sections are really interesting reading, discussing various proposals to power starships and which are practicle and why.

One thing on their discussion of anti-matter: I thought it would only destroy exactly as much matter as there was anti-matter. Why then are we talking about large scale destruction? Did I miss something?

Antimatter + normal matter = LOTS of energy.

Lots of energy released REALLY quickly = bomb.

I read an extract not too long ago that proposed that anti-matter + matter just basically cancelled and didn't release a whole lot of energy.

Or at least, I thought I read this. Could easily have been dreaming, but if so, I dream about physics papers with math WAY over my head, and that's just too wierd to think about.

I'll do some looking and see what I can find.

Interesting story you got here. I'd like to read more concerning that topic. Thanks for giving that data.
