It's a rumor that Montalban used a "fake" chest during the shooting of STII. In interviews with him, he maintained that this was really his chest. He was justifiably proud of his physique.
I stand corrected. I found another quote by Nicholas Meyer also laid the rumor to rest. I have only recently gotten interested in ST again. I loved the OS when I was young, but quickly grew tired of ST:TNG (after about the second season) because it seemed to soft and utopian. (Carpet on the bridge of an exploration/war ship? Really?)
Sorry for repeating that smear against Ricardo, who certainly did not deserve such.
Hey, no problem. I got my info originally from Shatner's book, Star Trek: Movie Memories. If you get a chance to pick it up, it's actually a really good read.
Yeah, TNG started Trek's demise in my eyes. I never cared for Picard, and the franchise really only went downhill from there as far as I was concerned. That's why I'm so excited about the reboot. I hope they breath some life back into the series!
Yes, Picard always bothered me too. Patrick Stewart is a great Shakespearean actor, but some roles should not be read like Shakespeare. Kirk was the guy you knew had read the collected works of Shakespeare, but identified more with Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke. When Kirk was angry, everyone got nervous. When Picard got angry, everyone turned to watch him finish his soliloquy and take a bow. They might even give a polite clap in the end.

Um, it might help if the women could see his pecs. ;-)
